The Diane Bonneau Scholarship: Enhance your Coaching Development!

The Diane Bonneau scholarship was established as a legacy to recognize Diane’s incredible contribution to the ICF Calgary Chapter and her commitment to life-long learning and coach development. Each year, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to an ICF member to invest in their professional development through an identified course, training, or other professional development opportunities. Award recipients will be invited to share their learnings with the ICF Calgary Charter Chapter community once their course/program is completed, either by delivering a session, providing a brief update at a scheduled event, creating a blog entry to be shared with the membership or otherwise.

Submissions are due by April 15, 2020, and will be awarded at the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting to take place in May or June 2020.

To apply, simply submit a free-form application, answering the following questions:

Describe your coaching practice and your involvement with the Calgary Chapter?

What training would you plan to use this award funding for? Please provide specifics.

How will this training enhance your coaching practice?

How would you propose to share your learnings with the ICF Calgary Chapter membership after you have finished the training?

Applications will be judged by an independent panel of non-board Chapter members. Successful recipients will be reimbursed up to $500 upon submission of documents evidencing the cost and their attendance at the training.

Please submit completed applications to Jackie Appleby, our Virtual Assistant by April 15, 2020 at [email protected].

Event Highlight

ICF Competency Update

What could be better than spending a mid-winter, February morning amongst your peers from the growing Calgary community of coaches and finding out what you need to know about the recent changes to the ICF Coaching Core Competencies? Not much!

Join us for a gourmet buffet breakfast at Joey’s Chinook to enjoy some great food, good company and much-needed information.

Who better to present a summary of the changes while we sip our coffee than Diane Bonneau? She is an active member of the ICF Calgary community who was called in as a subject matter expert representing Canada on the ICF Global project that resulted in the changes to the competencies. The format will be breakfast, presentation then an opportunity for exploration and discussion to deepen our understanding of “what the changes mean to me”.

Chapter Updates

Meet your Directors
Susan McGuire
Membership Director

I was introduced to the ICF Calgary Chapter while I was taking my coaching training.  I immediately knew that I wanted to become a member and be more involved in my local coaching community.  I have loved connecting with my fellow coaches at the various events and we have continued to learn from and support one another.  Newer coaches like myself along with more senior coaches have a broad range of experiences to share.

It is an honour and a privilege to be able to join the ICF Calgary Chapter Board of Directors in 2020!  My interest in joining began when I attended my first AGM and met so many wonderful and inspiring fellow Board Members.  Together, we plan to create a long term strategy, specific goals and objectives, as well as KPI's to track and report on our progress.

My goal as Membership Director is to engage and recruit new members to increase even further our diverse, knowledgeable and professional group of Calgary coaches.

Updates from the Board

President (Elect) Message
February 2020

Greetings on behalf of your ICF Calgary Chapter Board. As mentioned in our January newsletter, Kerry Black will remain as the President until the end of June and I will continue to support her as the President-Elect. I am excited to work closely with Kerry over this next season as we collaborate on a number of priorities on behalf of you and the Board.

We have a great team of coaches on the Board looking to connect, collaborate and contribute to our coaching community. We are excited to be representing you and working together to bring value to our members. We take seriously the opportunity to continually strive to bring value to our membership in order to facilitate connections, learning and ongoing professional development and growth. With that being said, please don't hesitate to reach out to any of our Board of Directors if you have questions or input. Our door (metaphorically) is always open!

We had our first event of the year, “Behind the Curtain: Coaching Secrets Revealed” and we welcomed over 30 coaches who had an open discussion with our 3 seasoned coaches, Dr. Ric Durrant,  Larissa Thurlow, and Martha Willson. Secrets were indeed revealed and it was a great night to learn how we can all apply these secrets to our own coaching practices. We thank all those who came and made the event a success. Stay tuned for the next one!

Here is a quick update on some of the high-level conversations we are having to bring value to our members:

  • Strategic Planning Process: we are talking about how to bring continuity and alignment year over year that supersedes the terms of individual board members and helps us to be looking longer-term (3-5 years)

  • Board KPI's: we are discussing how to get clarity for our Board to deliver value to membership and to measure this year over year

  • Diversification & Sustainability: for both offerings and revenue streams to bring additional value add to our members

All the best to you on your coaching journey!

Ed Temple ICF Calgary Chapter President (Elect)
